Wondering what to eat during your third trimester of pregnancy? Here’s what I eat in a day while pregnant in my 3rd trimester to give you some healthy, delicious ideas for fueling you and your baby!
Throughout my pregnancy I have tried to focus on eating whole, nutritious foods that will give my body everything it needs to grow a baby! Because the first trimester was met with nausea and a small appetite, I really tried to focus on my nutrition during the second and third trimesters.
Many of my meals and calorie goals are inspired by The Brewers Pregnancy Diet. I would recommend checking it out if you’re looking for information on what to eat during pregnancy!
Here are some healthy, nutritious ideas of what to eat in a day during your third trimester of pregnancy.
3rd Trimester Breakfast
I’ve never been a huge breakfast person, but I’ve also been learning more and more about the importance of eating breakfast, fueling your metabolism with nutritious fats, carbs, and protein, and not going long periods of time in the morning without eating. Ever since I started incorporating breakfast in the morning, I really noticed a difference in my stress levels and my overall health!
If I could recommend one thing to you to during your third trimester of pregnancy, it would be starting the morning with plenty of protein. It’s was amazing what a huge difference it made. Actually, eating a breakfast full of protein would also be super helpful during the 1st trimester when you may be battling nausea! Protein was one thing that seemed to help me feel better. I usually shoot for 20-30g. of protein for breakfast.
Here are a few of my favorite third trimester breakfast ideas:
2 Fried Eggs with Cheddar, 1/2 Cup Berries, 1 Banana, and a cup of Raw Milk.
A big smoothie with 1 1/2 Cups Raw Milk, a scoop of Collagen, and lots of fruit.
2 Scrambled Eggs, 1/2 Avocado, 2 Tbsp Salsa, 2 slices of Bacon, 1 serving of Fruit.
1 Cup Plain Greek Yogurt, 2 tsp. Honey, 1 Cup Frozen Berries.
After much experimentation and many different types of breakfast, I finally found what worked best for me during my second and third trimesters. Eating lots of protein in the morning and avoiding grains really seemed to help stave off the nausea that tends to sneak in during pregnancy. Grains didn’t bother me if I ate them for lunch or dinner, but I really found it best to avoid them during breakfast!
Mid-Morning Snack
Depending on what time you eat breakfast and how filling your breakfast is, you may or may not be hungry again before lunchtime! I like to eat breakfast within 30 minutes to an hour of waking up, so if I have my breakfast before 8am, I’ll probably be hungry again before lunch. Although I try, I usually end up eating breakfast after 8am, so it’s really hit or miss on whether I’ll want a mid-morning snack.
Here are a few ideas of mid-morning snacks for your third trimester of pregnancy:
A whole wheat muffin with lots of grass-fed butter
Boiled egg with a piece of fruit
1 oz Cheese with 2 Raw Carrots
A small smoothie with 1/2 Cup Raw Milk, 1 cup frozen fruit, and 1/2 Cup Ice
Pregnancy Lunch Ideas
Lunch normally happens between 12 and 1pm. After a busy morning of getting things done, I’m usually quite hungry! Especially if I had a smaller breakfast or skipped a mid-morning snack. I’ve really tried to prioritize protein during this third trimester, so I make sure to to have a reasonable amount of it in every meal! Oftentimes I’ll have leftovers from the previous nights dinner, but that’s not always an option, so I try to have lots of easy ideas on hand for a quick, nutritious lunch.
Here are a few lunch ideas to have during your third trimester of pregnancy:
Tuna Sandwich with Homemade Mayo, on Whole Wheat or Sourdough, with Raw Carrots
Egg Salad Sandwich with Homemade Mayo, on Whole Wheat or Sourdough with Sliced Cucumber
1/2 cup Rolled Oats cooked in 1 Cup Milk, Served with 2 Tbsp. Peanut Butter and 1 Tbsp. Raw Honey (I’ll also serve this with 1 cup cooked veggies with salt and butter if I can!)
Afternoon Snack
Again, some days I like to have quite a few snacks, and other days I have larger meals and am not hungry enough to eat very many snacks! I do believe that eating frequently during pregnancy, especially if you make sure to have a bit of protein with each snack, can be very beneficial. That’s why I try to have good options on hand for a quick, easy afternoon snack while I’m pregnant.
