This simple maple walnut granola recipe is naturally sweetened, made with only 5 simple ingredients, and comes together very quickly. It isn’t too sweet, and it’s perfect for sprinkling on your yogurt or having with milk!
I just can’t stop making granola recently.. it’s so good! It’s also a much cheaper option than buying pre-made granola from the grocery store.
My favorite way to enjoy it is in a bowl with lots of whole milk, but there are really lots of great ways to serve this granola. Because this granola it isn’t very sweet, it would be wonderful in a parfait with vanilla yogurt and berries for a special treat. It’s also great for topping plain yogurt with. The maple flavor and nuttiness of the walnuts can truly stand on their own.
Granola Sweetened with Maple Syrup
I love that this maple walnut granola is sweetened with maple syrup. Not only is this a more nutritious, natural sweetener than regular sugar, but I love the flavor that real maple syrup adds to granola! It goes especially well with the walnuts.
Maple syrup works excellently to sweeten granola because it is a liquid sweetener, and you don’t need to dissolve the sugar or cook it down before adding it to the granola.. so easy! That’s one reason honey and maple syrup are my go-to for sweetening any granola I make.
Granola with Coconut Oil
I chose to use coconut oil in this maple walnut granola recipe because I always have this healthy, versatile oil on hand. It always works flawlessly in granola! I haven’t tried using another oil or fat in this recipe, so let me know if you give it a try.
I generally use refined coconut oil, because I don’t want to taste that strong coconut flavor that unrefined coconut oil brings to the table. If you do want to embrace the coconut, you can use unrefined coconut oil instead, and you could also take out 1/2 cup of oats and replace it with shredded coconut for extra coconut flavor!
Quick and Easy Maple Granola
This maple walnut granola recipe was intended to be very quick and simple to make. Every once in a while, I do enjoy a granola that has a lot of ingredients, steps of preperation, and various mix-ins, but sometimes I just need something simple and delicious! I love how easy it is to throw together just 5 ingredients and end up with a delicious, lightly sweetened granola that can go with pretty much anything.
Because of the ease of this recipe, I find myself making this type of granola far far more than any other granola I’ve tried. Of course, granola is fun to experiment with, and you can always replace some of the oats or walnuts and throw in some other ingredient you’re wanting to have in the granola! Things like nuts and coconut flakes work extremely well for this. If you’re wanting to add some dried fruit, I would recommend waiting until the granola is baked and cooled, then adding in about 1/2 cup dried raisins or cranberries to the mixture before storing it.
Ways to Serve Homemade Granola
