French toast bake for two
Have a few slices of stale bread lying around? This french toast bake for two could be the perfect solution. In fact.. even if you don’t have stale bread, you may want to toast some up in the oven just so that you can have this delicious french toast for breakfast tomorrow morning!
This recipe is just the right size to serve two people a nicely portioned breakfast or brunch. I love having recipes for two people on hand, because sometimes you just don’t need or want leftovers. This recipe also uses very few dishes, so you could easily make this a part of your weekly routine without feeling like it was a hassle.
French toast bake without heavy cream
This french toast bake is made without heavy cream. Truthfully, I wanted to make the recipe this way because I always have lots of milk on hand, ready to be used up! This is not always the case with heavy cream.
I use 2 percent or whole milk in this recipe, but it’s best with whole milk. If you choose to make it with skim milk or a non-dairy substitute such as almond or oat milk, the recipe should still turn out just fine. The result would be less rich product.
If you want to make your french toast bake extra decadent and rich, feel free to remove a few tablespoons of the milk and replace it with heavy cream — yum!
Easy, make ahead french toast!
This cinnamony, custardy breakfast is delicious, you’ll be amazed at how quick it was to make!
I absolutely love french toast, but I will say that it’s slightly more work than having milk and cereal for breakfast. Sometimes you just want to wake up and have breakfast already waiting for you! It really doesn’t get any easier than popping these french toast bakes into the oven and waiting for a warm, delicious breakfast to be ready.
Firstly, this recipe is SO easy to make in the first place. It takes all of 5 or 10 minutes to get everything ready the night before (including clean up!). Also, there’s no mess for you in the morning! Since all the prep work was done the night before, so now you can just relax and enjoy a freshly baked treat. This is especially handy if you have a busy day ahead, or if you are simply planning to relax and have an easy morning.
Ways to serve a french toast bake
My favorite way to enjoy this sourdough french toast bake is with some fresh fruit and a sprinkle of powdered sugar! It isn’t too sweet, so that little bit of sweetness from the fruit and powdered sugar seem to pair perfectly with this recipe.
Of course, there are SO many ways you could choose to serve this up! I recommend trying:
Maple syrup
Butter
Chopped and roasted nuts
Whipped Cream
Mixed berry sauce
Melted chocolate
Fresh berries
Powdered sugar

How to make a French Toast Bake
Begin the night before you want to have the french toast bake. First, lightly grease two ramekins with butter or oil.
Evenly distribute the cubed bread between the two ramekins. If your bread isn’t already stale, toast it in the oven for a couple minutes before moving on to the next step.
In a bowl, combine the eggs, milk, cinnamon, salt, and sugar. Beat thoroughly with a fork.
Evenly distribute the egg mixture into the two ramekins, pouring it over the bread cubes. Lightly press down the bread cubes to moisten them with the egg mixture. Cover the ramekins with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight
In the morning, preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
Bake for 20-25 minutes. Start with 20. When putting a knife in the center of the ramekin, the french toast should look very moist, but there should not be a lot of liquid pooling into the space where you cut.
Sprinkle with powdered sugar and enjoy!
