Hot Chocolate from Scratch
Don’t have a packet of hot chocolate on hand? No problem! With a few pantry staples and just a few minutes, you can make the most delicious hot chocolate that you’ve ever had. Trust me, you won’t be going back to the packaged hot chocolate any time soon!
Homemade hot chocolate is definitely the way to go. Not only is it easy, but it tastes way better than powdered hot chocolate, and you get to know exactly what ingredients are in it. Making hot chocolate from scratch is easy, extra tasty, and maybe a little better for you than the store bought stuff. Win win win!
Making hot chocolate for one
This recipe is just enough for one decent sized mug of hot chocolate, which is perfect when you want a special little treat, just for yourself. You can also, of course, double this recipe to share with a friend or family member. Making a small recipe of hot chocolate to share is one of my and my husbands favorite traditions to make a winter evening extra cozy and special.
If you’re wanting to make more of your meals and snacks from scratch, this is one recipe you may come back to quite often during the winter season! To make it easier, I would recommend printing it out and having it in a location that will be easy to find. That will make it just as easy to make homemade hot chocolate for one as it would be to reach for a single serving packet.
Easy hot chocolate
This homemade hot chocolate for one is so incredibly easy, and even more delicious. Perhaps you would expect to find a hot chocolate recipe with only two or three ingredients.. such recipes do exist! But this decadent hot chocolate is truly SO much better than something you can throw together with powdered milk and cocoa powder. It only takes 5 staple ingredients that you’re very likely to have in your pantry already! Trust me, those extra two ingredients are worth it.
This easy hot chocolate can be steaming in your favorite mug in just 5 minutes.
Stovetop hot chocolate
This recipe uses the stovetop to make quick and easy hot chocolate, but you could also use the microwave if you would prefer! Personally, I think the stove top is just as easy, and will give you a smoother, tastier texture than using the microwave.
Microwave hot chocolate:
To make this recipe in the microwave, you just need to combine all of the ingredients except for the chocolate chips in a large mug, and microwave it until it is hot, watching it to make sure it doesn’t boil over. Once the milk mixture is hot, you can pour in the chocolate chips and wait for a minute or two, then take a fork or a small whisk to stir the hot chocolate until the chocolate chips have melted and the mixture is smooth.
Hot chocolate for one with chocolate chips
The chocolate chips make this recipe for hot chocolate extra decadent and delicious. I use semi-sweet chocolate chips, because it gives this recipe the perfect amount of sweetness and rich chocolatey flavor! The cocoa powder in this recipe is used in addition to the chocolate chips to make it extra extra chocolatey.
I would strongly recommend using high quality chocolate chips in this recipe! If you use cheap chocolate, it is likely that you’ll have a hard time melting the chocolate and getting a smooth hot chocolate. Splurge on the Ghirardelli chocolate chips or something similar.
