Learn how to cook asparagus in the air fryer for an easy, healthy, and delicious side dish! This recipe makes tender, lightly crispy asparagus that will have you going back for seconds.
It’s finally spring, which means that it’s finally asparagus season! I have always loved asparagus, and it’s truly a special treat when I start to see it showing up in the grocery store for a great price. This year I plan to stock up and make sure my family gets their fill of it before the season is over!
Generally, I have always roasted asparagus in the oven, but when I got my countertop oven with the air fry function, I knew I was going to have to give it a try– and I’m glad I did!
Is air fried asparagus crispy?
This air fryer asparagus recipe yields asparagus that is lightly crisp on the edges, which not only gives it a wonderful texture, but also a wonderful flavor! It is certainly not crunchy like something deep fried would be, but it is also not the same as simply roasting your asparagus in the oven. Using the air fryer gives you a more crisp texture.
Cooking this asparagus has motivated me to try cooking more of my fresh vegetables in the air fryer! It’s just as easy as popping it in the oven, and it gives you a delightful new texture.
How long to air fry asparagus
To air fry 1 pound of fresh asparagus, set your air fryer to 400 degrees, and set your timer for 10 minutes. It is important to coat fresh vegetables with a bit of oil in order to get that delicious texture and flavor from the air fryer. Once the timer goes off, check on the asparagus and make sure it is cooked to your liking. The asparagus should be lightly crisped up on the edges, and it should be tender enough to pierce through with a fork.
How long to air fry your asparagus will depend on the thickness. The asparagus used in this recipe was fairly thin, while sometimes pieces of asparagus are quite thick and will require a slightly longer cooking time.
What to serve with this air fryer asparagus recipe?
Asparagus goes so well with so many dishes. Some of my favorite meal ideas to serve asparagus with are:
Steak and mashed potatoes
Salmon and rice
Pork Chops
Roasted chicken and sweet potatoes
Fettuccine Alfredo
Shrimp Scampi
Ingredients
1lb Fresh Asparagus
1 Tbsp Avocado Oil (You could also use olive, coconut, or vegetable oil)
1/2 tsp Sea Salt
1/4 tsp Black Pepper
2 Cloves Minced Garlic (Optional)
Instructions
Cut about an inch off of the bottom stalks of the asparagus. I like to keep the asparagus in a bunch and make sure the rubber band is about two inches from the bottom, then I simply use a knife to slice off all of the ends at once.
Wash and dry your asparagus.
Toss the asparagus with the oil, salt, pepper, and optional garlic.
Place in an even layer in your air fryer (There will be overlapping, which is fine), and turn on your air fryer to 400 degrees. Set the timer for 10 minutes.
After 10 minutes, check your asparagus. It should be lightly browned and crisped on the edges, and tender enough to pierce with a fork. If it needs longer, give it a stir and place it back in the air fryer for another 2-5 minutes. This will depend on the thickness of your asparagus.
Enjoy!
