These 7 nourishing breakfast ideas are sure to give you a strong start to your day. Healthy breakfast ideas that you can prepare in the morning, or meal prep big batches ahead of time so that you can have easy, healthy breakfasts on hand all week!
I used to skip breakfast just about every morning. I wasn’t hungry, and I wanted to save my calories for lunch! What I didn’t realize was how detrimental skipping breakfast can be for your health.
Having a balanced breakfast with lots of carbs, protein, and healthy fat is extremely important for your metabolism and general well being.
Eating breakfast tells your body that it’s safe, and that it does not need to save calories and resources. It is free to burn extra calories and run the way it wants to. Having a healthy metabolism can affect your immune system, mood, digestive system, weight, and so much more.
That’s why it’s so important to have a balanced breakfast! You don’t want to set yourself up for a day of low metabolism, irritability, hunger, poor digestion, and so on.
Each morning I try to get in lots of high quality protein, along with easy to digest carbs and healthy fats to help balance my hormones.
Without further due ado, here are 7 nourishing breakfast ideas!
Soaked Oatmeal with Cooked Apples + Eggs
I soak my oatmeal overnight in water with a little lemon juice. The next morning, I rinsed the oats in water, and then added back a little water and cooked them. Soaking the oats makes them easier to digest, and makes the nutrients more easily-accessible to your body.
Top with half a sautéed apple, cooked in a little butter and sprinkled with cinnamon.
Pair your oatmeal with 2 Pasture raised eggs scrambled in coconut oil on the side. Such a filling, warming breakfast! Perfect for the fall.
It would be super easy to make a big batch of this soaked oatmeal and sautéed apples ahead of time. Boil some eggs for an easy, on the go breakfast option.
Cheese, Egg, Avocado, and Cream Cheese on a Sourdough Bagel + Cantelope
This extra special, nourishing, completely delicious bagel sandwich is a breakfast I want to have every single morning.
Bagel sandwiches are super customizable. You could put sausage, bacon, raw cheddar, scrambled eggs, ham, mustard, spinach… whatever suits your fancy!
I like to make a big batch of these sourdough bagels, slice them, and keep them in the freezer. All I have to do is pop one in the toaster in the morning and then add whatever toppings I have on hand.
You can have a tasty side of fruit for extra fibre, vitamins, and minerals.. or just skip it and have the sandwich if you’re in a hurry!
Banana Muffins with Skyr, Honey, and Bee Pollen
Choose sourdough banana muffins for bonus points! Also, banana muffins are delicious sliced open and spread with lots of grass-fed butter. Yum!
Skyr is pretty much the Icelandic version of Greek Yogurt, which would be a simple substitute here. Both Skyr and Greek Yogurt are loaded with protein to help balance out your breakfast.
Raw honey is not only delicious, but it has loads of health benefits. A nice drizzle of raw honey will help your metabolism and give you energy to start your morning!
Bee Pollen is full of important vitamins and minerals, such as copper and vitamin B.
Eggs, Sausage, Sourdough Toast, and Banana.
Have a pasture-raised egg, pastured sausage, sliced banana, and a piece of sourdough toast with grass-fed butter.
This makes for a balanced, high-protein breakfast.
The healthy fats and cholesterol from the egg and grass-fed butter give your hormones helping hand.
The banana is great for added potassium and an easy to digest carb.
The protein from the sausage will keep you full and help you build muscle.
Sourdough Cinnamon Raisin Bagel with Butter + Egg, Avocado, and Salsa.
I have to admit.. I could have this for any meal of the day. Who says you can’t have a bagel for dinner?
These sourdough cinnamon raisin bagels are another perfect sourdough recipe to make ahead of time. Simply let the bagels cool, slice them, and put them in the freezer for a busy morning!
I like to have boiled, pasture-raised eggs on hand for an easy source of protein.
Avocado has healthy fats that will keep you full and help balance your hormones.
Be sure to give the eggs and avocado a generous sprinkle of pink Himalayan sea salt or another mineral-rich sea salt!
Biscuits and Sausage Gravy + Fruit
Make a big batch of sourdough biscuits to go along with some sausage gravy. If you can, get pastured sausage and use grass-fed milk for your gravy.
Nothing says cozy like a warm, hearty plate of biscuits and gravy on a cool fall morning.
I could definitely eat this one for a week straight. If you make a lot of gravy for multiple mornings, you may need to thin it down with some milk each time to keep it from being too thick!
If cantelope is in season, I enjoy it as often as I can! It’s a great source of potassium and easy to digest carbs.
Sourdough Cinnamon Rolls with Eggs
The best for last! This is a perfect pro-metabolic Saturday morning breakfast. Sourdough cinnamon rolls with a not-too-sweet cream cheese frosting.. yum.
Make these sourdough cinnamon rolls with organic flour and grass-fed butter, and pair with some pasture-raised eggs scrambled in coconut oil.
You can make these sourdough cinnamon rolls for a special birthday breakfast, Christmas morning, or just a cozy fall day.. and no need to feel guilty about it!
